In the upcoming biopic “Bob Marley: One Love,” the timeless music of Bob Marley comes to life on the big screen. The film, set to be released next year, provides a glimpse into the life of the iconic singer-songwriter. Recently, a new trailer was unveiled, offering the first look at Kingsley Ben-Adir’s portrayal of Bob Marley in the highly anticipated movie.
Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green and produced by Ziggy Marley, the son of Bob Marley, “Bob Marley: One Love” aims for authenticity. In an interview with EW, Green expressed the significance of obtaining the blessing of Ziggy and the Marley family, allowing access to intimate conversations and memories that were not widely known.
Green explains, “Ziggy was young, but he was still there. And when you are 11 or 12, that’s the most impressionable time. You do remember a lot from those periods of time.”
Ziggy Marley emphasizes the importance of understanding this pivotal period in Bob Marley’s life, stating, “If you wanna know Bob Marley, you have to know this period of time. These are the moments that really transformed him into the person who we know him as today.”
To prepare for the role, Kingsley Ben-Adir learned to play the guitar and performs Marley’s music throughout the film, blending his own talent with archival recordings. Additionally, the film delves into the historical context of 1970s Jamaica, providing viewers with a deeper understanding of the iconic songs.
Reinaldo Marcus Green highlights the political climate of Jamaica during that era, stating, “Jamaica was going through a very tumultuous time at that time. The film shows that broader political context, and breaks it down in a way that lets you not just hear the music, but listen to it.”
