Model and actor Cara Delevingne recently addressed her decision to turn down an interview request at the British Grand Prix, explaining her perspective on the matter. The incident occurred when Sky Sports’ Formula One host, Martin Brundle, approached Delevingne for a chat during the grid walk on Sunday (9 July). However, Delevingne declined the interview, prompting discussions and mixed opinions among fans and observers.
Brundle, known for his interactions with drivers, team principals, and celebrities attending the Grand Prix, was instructed by a person he believed to be a member of Delevingne’s team not to proceed with the interview. Expressing his surprise, Brundle commented, “She doesn’t want to talk? But everybody needs to talk on the grid, that’s the deal now.” He made a quick request for a chat, to which Delevingne responded negatively, citing her inability to hear properly.
While Delevingne faced criticism for her actions, she also received support from her fans. Responding to a message of support, Delevingne thanked them for understanding both sides of the situation. She further clarified that she declined Brundle’s request based on instructions she received from an “F1 representative” rather than her agent.
Delevingne expressed her enjoyment of the event and her happiness in being there, regardless of others’ opinions. The Independent has reached out to Formula One for comment on the matter.
In November 2021, F1 implemented a new rule commonly known as the “Martin Brundle clause.” This rule requires celebrities on the starting grid to forego their security entourage. Brundle explained at the time that the clause mandates celebrities to engage with him. Although he admitted to appreciating it when celebrities ignored him, he clarified that they are not obligated to do interviews while on the grid. The rule was introduced after Brundle’s encounter with American rapper Megan Thee Stallion, during which her bodyguard intervened and pushed Brundle away when he attempted to ask questions.
Meanwhile, at the Silverstone event, Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham made a noteworthy comment about Sir Lewis Hamilton, referring to him as an “eight-time champion.” It should be noted, however, that Hamilton has won the World Championship of Drivers seven times.
