Goldie Hawn, the renowned actress, recently opened up about her decision to not marry her partner of over 40 years, Kurt Russell. In an interview with CNN, the 77-year-old actress expressed her concerns about marriage and why the couple chose not to tie the knot.

When asked about their decision, Hawn posed a thought-provoking question, “Why should we get married?” She explained that both she and Russell had previous marriages that didn’t end well, emphasizing the negative aspects of divorce and its impact on individuals and children involved.

Hawn finds joy and freedom in not being bound by the institution of marriage. Every morning, she wakes up with the ability to actively choose to be in the partnership, appreciating the independence it offers. She acknowledged that relationships are challenging, with various hurdles to overcome and differing beliefs to navigate.

The couple has remained steadfast in their decision not to marry throughout their enduring relationship. Russell even revealed that a moment at the 1989 Oscars, where they playfully hinted at marriage, was entirely made up. The constant pressure and curiosity from others about their marital status didn’t sway them, as they prioritized their own feelings and those of their children.

Hawn and Russell first crossed paths on the set of “The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band” in 1968. While Hawn initially found Russell attractive, she thought he was too young. However, fate brought them together again 17 years later during the filming of “Swing Shift” in 1983, leading to a blossoming romance. They welcomed their son, Wyatt, in 1986.

Reflecting on their enduring relationship, Hawn believes that the key lies in the genuine desire to be together. She emphasizes that it’s not about the institution of marriage but rather about the people involved and their commitment to staying together. For Hawn, the joy and excitement of being in each other’s company and sharing intimate moments outweigh the need for a marriage certificate.
