Jada Pinkett Smith’s recent interview sheds light on her separation from husband Will Smith, a journey that began back in 2016.

For seven years, the famous actors led entirely separate lives, yet their decision to publicly confirm this information remained withheld until now, as Pinkett Smith confessed in her interview with NBC.

By the time they decided to part ways, they had both grown weary of trying to make things work. Despite this, they have no intention of proceeding with a divorce.

In her conversation with NBC, Pinkett Smith, aged 52, shared that she had made a personal promise to herself and Smith, who is 55, to avoid divorce at all costs. This commitment, she affirmed, is something she remains steadfastly committed to.

She elaborated, “I think we were both kind of just still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be.” This interview comes in anticipation of the release of Pinkett Smith’s upcoming memoir, “Worthy.”

The couple made headlines the previous year when Will Smith unexpectedly took to the Oscars stage and confronted host Chris Rock, emphatically stating, “Keep my wife’s name out of your [expletive] mouth.”

This incident followed a jest made by Rock regarding Pinkett Smith’s alopecia, a condition that results in hair loss. In a separate interview with People, Pinkett Smith initially assumed it was all part of a planned joke. She later realized otherwise when Will began walking back to his seat.

She affirmed, “I’m going to be by his side but also allow him to figure this out for himself.”

Speculation about their marriage arose in 2020 during an episode of Pinkett Smith’s Facebook show, “Red Table Talk,” where she and Will discussed her “entanglement” with artist August Alsina.

Their story began in 1994 when Pinkett Smith auditioned for a role on Smith’s show, “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” They eventually tied the knot in 1997 and share two children together, Jaden Smith and Willow Smith, in addition to Trey Smith, Will’s son from his first marriage to Sheree Zampino.
