how come when i flip reset i feel like i got it but i dont rocket league

Because the reset touch and the actual usable reset are not always the same thing in Rocket League. You can feel the contact happen, but if your car isn’t lined up well, you’re too close/far, or you don’t control your boost and timing, the flip won’t feel “ready” the way you expect it to be.

What’s probably happening

  • You may be touching the ball with the wheels , but not in a clean, stable way that lets you use the flip well.
  • A lot of players get the reset while moving too close to the ball , which can make them bounce off or lose control right after the touch.
  • The reset often feels confusing because the mechanic has two parts : getting the touch and then actually using the flip effectively.

Common reasons it feels “got it” but isn’t there

  • Angle issue: Your car hits the ball, but not under the ball in a controlled way.
  • Speed issue: You’re either too soft or too fast, so the touch doesn’t set up a usable reset.
  • Boost control issue: If you keep boosting the wrong way through the touch, you can ruin the setup right after the reset.
  • Timing issue: You may be pressing the flip too early or too late, so it doesn’t feel like a clean saveable reset.

Simple fix to try

  1. Approach the ball with more control, not just speed.
  2. Try to stay slightly under and behind the ball instead of right into its center.
  3. Aim for a clean wheel touch, then let the reset settle before using the flip.
  4. If you keep bouncing off, slow down your aerial and focus on cleaner contact first.

Quick mindset check

A flip reset is one of those mechanics where the touch can be real even when the setup is bad. So if it feels like you “got it” but the play falls apart, that usually means your contact is close, but your spacing and timing still need work.
