how do i find my usi

Your USI (Unique Student Identifier) can be found or recovered online in a few minutes using the official USI student portal.

What a USI Is

  • A USI is a unique reference number for anyone doing nationally recognised training in Australia (e.g., TAFE, RTO courses, apprenticeships).
  • It links all your VET training records and certificates from 2015 onwards into one online record.

Quick way to find your USI

  1. Go to the official USI website and open the “Students” section.
  1. Click “Find your USI” or “Not sure if I have a USI / Find my USI”.
  1. Agree to the terms and move to the “Forgotten USI” or “Find your USI” screen.

On that screen, you can choose one of several options:

  • By email address (they email your USI to the address on your USI account).
  • By mobile number (they text your USI to the mobile on your account, after confirming your date of birth).
  • By personal details + security questions (you enter name, date of birth, etc., then answer your security questions and your USI appears on screen).
  • By personal details + ID document (you enter your details and then verify with one form of ID, and your USI is shown).

If you still can’t find it

  • Double‑check that the details you enter (name, DOB, email, mobile, town of birth) exactly match what you used when you first created your USI.
  • If nothing works, you can contact the USI Office helpline (for example, the guide suggests calling 1300 857 536 during business hours) for assistance.

Tips to avoid losing it again

  • Save your USI in your phone notes or password manager.
  • Keep your email and mobile details up to date in your USI account so you can always retrieve it easily in the future.
