how does tgl golf work

TGL golf is a team-based, tech-heavy format that turns a normal golf match into a fast, TV-friendly competition. Each match is 15 holes: 9 holes of Triples and 6 holes of Singles.

How it works

• In Triples , three players per team play alternate shot for the first 9 holes. The team decides the tee order before the match, and the players rotate shots from there.

• In Singles , the final 6 holes are head-to-head. Each player on a team plays two holes, rotating through holes 10–15.

• Every hole is worth 1 point, and the team with fewer strokes wins the point. Ties are worth 0 points, and there are no carryovers.

• Teams can use the Hammer , which raises the value of a hole by one point and can shift momentum quickly.

• Players have a 40-second shot clock ; if time runs out, the team gets a one-stroke penalty.

• If the match is tied after 15 holes, TGL uses a closest-to-the-pin overtime where all three golfers compete in a best-of-three style tiebreak.

What makes it different

TGL is designed to blend real golf with simulator tech, so long shots are hit into a massive screen and shorter shots move into the Green Zone, where the surface can change slope electronically. That makes it feel closer to a strategic, broadcast-ready sport than a traditional round of golf.

Simple example

If Team A wins hole 1, loses hole 2, and ties hole 3, the score is 1–1 with one hole producing no points. If Team A then throws the Hammer on hole 4 and wins it, that hole is worth 2 points instead of 1.
