how much turkey per person

You can use a simple rule of thumb:

  • Plan 1 pound (about 450 g) of uncooked turkey per adult if you don’t care much about leftovers.
  • Plan 1.25–1.5 pounds (560–680 g) per adult if you want generous portions or leftovers for sandwiches and soups.
  • For kids under 10, plan 0.5–0.75 pound (225–340 g) each.

That means, for example, 10 adults with a few sides usually need about a 10–12 lb turkey, or 15 lb if you want plenty of next‑day turkey meals.
