how to add face id to iphone
Open Settings on your iPhone, tap Face ID & Passcode, enter your passcode, then tap Set Up Face ID and follow the on-screen face scan steps. Apple says you can also add an Alternate Appearance from the same menu if you want to recognize a second look or a different person on the device.
Steps
- Go to Settings.
- Tap Face ID & Passcode.
- Enter your passcode.
- Tap Set Up Face ID.
- Hold the iPhone in portrait and position your face in the frame.
- Slowly move your head in a circle for the first scan.
- Tap Continue and repeat for the second scan.
- Tap Done when finished.
Useful notes
- Your iPhone needs a passcode before Face ID can be set up.
- You can turn on Face ID for unlocking, purchases, payments, and supported apps from the same menu.
- If you already set it up, look for Set Up an Alternate Appearance in Face ID & Passcode.
Quick fix if it fails
- Make sure your face is centered and well lit.
- Remove anything blocking your face, like a mask or heavy sunglasses, unless you’re using a mask-friendly setup.
- If the phone says it can’t complete the scan, try again from the beginning.
