how to check when the last icloud backup was

You can check it on the iPhone or iPad itself: go to Settings > your name > iCloud > iCloud Backup. The screen shows the last successful backup date and time right there.

On a Mac or Windows PC

You can also view backups from a computer. On Mac, open System Settings > your name > iCloud > Manage > Backups. On Windows, open iCloud for Windows and go to Storage > Backups.

Important note

Apple says you won’t find a list of iCloud backups on iCloud.com, so the backup time is best checked from the device or computer connected to that Apple account.

If your iPhone backed up earlier today, the iCloud Backup screen may show only the time; if it was longer ago, it will show the full date and time.
