how to copy and paste
To copy and paste, you always follow the same basic idea: first select , then copy , then paste.
Basic idea
- Select the text, image, or file you want.
- Copy it (or cut it, if you want to move it).
- Go where you want it to appear.
- Paste it there.
On Windows (PC)
Using keyboard shortcuts
- Copy: Select the item, then press Ctrl + C.
- Cut (move): Select the item, then press Ctrl + X.
- Paste: Move your cursor where you want, then press Ctrl + V.
- Undo: If you paste in the wrong place, press Ctrl + Z.
Using the mouse
- Right‑click on selected text or files, choose Copy or Cut.
- Go to the new location, right‑click, choose Paste.
On Mac
Using keyboard shortcuts
- Copy: Select, then press Command (⌘) + C.
- Cut: Select, then press Command (⌘) + X (where cutting is allowed).
- Paste: Place the cursor, then press Command (⌘) + V.
- Undo: Press Command (⌘) + Z to undo a paste.
Using menus / right‑click
- In most apps: choose Edit → Copy or Edit → Paste from the menu bar.
- Or Control‑click/right‑click the selection and choose Copy , then Control‑click/right‑click where you want and choose Paste.
On phones and tablets
iPhone / iPad
- Tap and hold on a word until it’s highlighted and you see handles.
- Drag the handles to select more text if needed.
- Tap Copy (or Cut) in the little menu.
- Go to where you want to paste, tap and hold, then tap Paste.
Android (general pattern)
- Tap and hold on text until it’s highlighted and you see selection handles.
- Adjust the selection, then tap Copy , Cut , or a copy icon in the toolbar.
- Tap and hold in the new spot and choose Paste.
Extra tips (nice to know)
- Many web apps (like Google Docs) let you copy and paste with the same keyboard shortcuts as your computer: Ctrl/⌘ + C/X/V.
- If pasting messes up formatting, some editors have “Paste without formatting” or similar options so your pasted text matches the current style.
TL;DR: Select → Copy (Ctrl/⌘ + C) → go where you want → Paste (Ctrl/⌘ + V), or long‑press and use the pop‑up menu on phones and tablets.
