how to enter a stock spinoff reverse reverse split in quicked

In Quicken, enter the corporate spin-off first , then enter the reverse stock split as a separate stock split transaction.

How to enter it

For the spin-off, use the Corporate Securities Spin-off transaction and enter the new company, the spin-off ratio, and the basis allocation from the broker or company notice. After that, enter the reverse split using Stock Split and use the split ratio exactly as stated, for example 1 new share for 4 old shares in a 1-for-4 reverse split.

Reverse split details

In Quicken, reverse splits are entered by putting the new shares number first and the old shares number second, so a 1-for-2 reverse split is entered as 1 new / 2 old. If there was cash paid for fractional shares, record that separately as the cash-in-lieu amount.

Practical order

  1. Record the spin-off transaction first.
  1. Record the reverse stock split next.
  1. Check for any fractional-share cash and enter it as cash-in-lieu if needed.

Important note

If Quicken created a duplicate “post split” security or odd placeholder entries, users in the Quicken community report that you may need to remove the placeholder and keep the original security name/ticker.
