How to Get Rid of the “Welcome to Server” Message on Discord

If you’re seeing the automatic “Welcome to this server, [name]” message when someone joins your Discord server, you can turn it off in your server settings—or disable it from bots like MEE6 or Carl-bot if they’re handling greetings.

1. Disable Discord’s Built‑In Welcome Messages

This is the default system message that appears in the first text channel when new members join. Steps (Desktop or Web):

  1. Open Discord and go to your server.
  2. Click the server name at the top-left.
  3. Select Server Settings.
  4. In the left sidebar, go to Overview (on some servers it may be under Engagement , Safety Setup , or Onboarding).
  5. Scroll down until you see:
    • “Send a random welcome message when someone joins the server”
  6. Uncheck / toggle off that option.
  7. Click Save Changes at the bottom.

Once disabled, Discord will stop posting those automatic welcome messages in your default channel.

Note: This built‑in welcome message is only visible to you (the server owner/creator) by default, not to other members.

2. Turn Off Bot Welcome Messages (MEE6, Carl-bot, etc.)

Many servers use bots to send custom welcome messages. If you’re seeing more stylized or channel-specific greetings, a bot is likely responsible.

For MEE6

  1. Go to the MEE6 dashboard and log in.
  2. Select your server.
  3. Open the Welcome (or similar) plugin/module.
  4. Disable the welcome message or delete the configured message.
  5. Save changes.

For Carl-bot

  1. Visit the Carl-bot dashboard and choose your server.
  2. Go to the Welcome or Join/Leave section.
  3. Turn off join messages or clear the welcome message template.
  4. Save.

If you’re not sure which bot is sending the message, check:

  • Your server’s bot channels or bot command channels , or
  • The message’s style (bots often embed images, roles, or custom text).

3. If You Meant the “Welcome to your server” Banner (Owner‑Only)

There’s also an older UI banner that says “Welcome to your server, [name]” with setup tips, shown only to the server creator/owner in the first text channel.

  • You cannot fully remove this banner via settings.
  • It is only visible to you , not to other members.
  • Over time, as you add more messages/channels, it gets pushed down and becomes less noticeable.
  • Workarounds people use:
    • Rename/reorder the default channel so it’s less prominent.
    • Create a dedicated “welcome” or “info” channel and move focus there.

4. Optional: Redirect Welcomes to a Specific Channel

If you don’t want to disable welcomes entirely but want them out of your main chat:

  1. Create a channel like #welcome or #new-members.
  2. In Server Settings > Overview (or Engagement/Onboarding), set the New Member Messages Channel to that channel.
  3. Keep the welcome message enabled but confined to its own space.

TL;DR

  • To stop Discord’s default join message: Server Settings → Overview → uncheck “Send a random welcome message when someone joins the server” → Save.
  • To stop bot greetings: disable the Welcome/Join feature in the bot’s dashboard (MEE6, Carl-bot, etc.).
  • The owner‑only “Welcome to your server” banner can’t be removed, but it’s only visible to you and fades into the background over time.
