how to get splinter out of foot

Here’s the safest way to get a splinter out of a foot:

  1. Wash your hands and the foot with soap and water.
  2. Clean a pair of tweezers with rubbing alcohol.
  3. If the splinter tip is sticking out, grip it with the tweezers and pull it out in the same direction it went in.
  4. If it’s just under the skin, sterilize a needle with rubbing alcohol, gently lift the skin at the entry point, then use the tweezers to remove the splinter.
  5. After it’s out, wash the area again, apply a little antibiotic ointment, and cover it with a clean bandage.

A warm soak for 10 to 15 minutes can help soften the skin and make removal easier, especially for a foot splinter. Tape can sometimes work for very shallow splinters, but it’s less reliable than tweezers.

When to get help

Don’t keep digging if the splinter is deep, broken, very painful, bleeding a lot, or in a spot you can’t see well. Get medical help sooner if there are signs of infection like redness spreading, pus, warmth, swelling, or worsening pain.

Quick aftercare

Keep it clean, dry, and covered for a day or two. Watch it over the next 24 to 48 hours to make sure it’s healing normally.
