how to turn on noise suppression on obs

To turn on noise suppression in OBS, open your microphone source, right- click it, and choose Filters. Then click the + button, select Noise Suppression , and confirm.

Choose a method

OBS typically gives you two options:

  • RNNoise : Better quality, but uses a bit more CPU.
  • Speex : Lighter on performance, but usually lower quality.

If your PC is reasonably strong, start with RNNoise. If you notice strain or glitches, switch to Speex and adjust the suppression level.

Basic steps

  1. Open OBS.
  2. Go to the Audio Mixer.
  3. Find your mic source.
  4. Open Filters.
  5. Click + and add Noise Suppression.
  6. Pick a method.
  7. Test your mic in a short recording.

Best practice

After enabling it, record a quick test with your usual background noise, like a fan or keyboard. If your voice sounds too thin or robotic, reduce the suppression strength or try the other method. OBS’s noise suppression is meant for mild background noise and white noise, so it works best as part of a simple cleanup chain, not as a fix for very loud noise.

Extra tip

If you want cleaner audio, many creators also pair noise suppression with a Noise Gate or Compressor for more consistent voice levels. A recent OBS tutorial also recommends placing suppression early in the filter chain before compression.
