how to unlock dimensions on cricut design space

To unlock dimensions in Cricut Design Space, select your image or shape, then click the small lock icon between the Width and Height boxes at the top of the canvas so it opens. Once it’s unlocked, you can type different width and height values to stretch or reshape the item instead of keeping it proportional.

How it works

  • Locked: changing one dimension automatically changes the other to keep proportions the same.
  • Unlocked: width and height can be edited independently, which is useful for making rectangles, ovals, or other custom shapes.
  • You can also resize by dragging the corner handle, but the lock still controls whether the object stays proportional.

Quick steps

  1. Click the object on the canvas.
  2. Look at the W and H fields in the top edit bar.
  3. Click the lock icon between them to unlock it.
  4. Enter the width and height you want.
  5. Re-lock it when you’re done if you want to prevent accidental distortion.

Common fix

If the size still seems stuck, make sure you’re editing the selected object directly and not a grouped layer or flattened image. Cricut’s help materials show the sizing controls in the Canvas edit bar, and community posts note that recent updates may make the top-bar lock the main place to change proportions.

Example

If you want a card base that is 5 x 7 when folded, you would unlock the dimensions and enter 10 for width and 7 for height, then cut and fold it in half.

TL;DR: click the padlock between Width and Height, unlock it, then type separate dimensions.
