quokka where do they live
Quokkas live mostly in southwest Western Australia , especially on Rottnest Island near Perth and Bald Island near Albany. There are also a few small mainland groups in bushland and protected areas, but those are much rarer.
Where they live
- Rottnest Island : home to the largest and best-known population.
- Bald Island : another important refuge for quokkas.
- Mainland southwest WA : small, scattered populations survive in dense vegetation, shrubland, and heath areas.
Habitat
Quokkas prefer areas with cover and food , such as dense streamside vegetation, shrubland, heath, and semi-arid areas with suitable shelter. They are most successful where predators are limited.
In short
If you picture a quokka in the wild, think Western Australia’s islands and a few protected mainland pockets rather than a widespread species across Australia.
