what does 3&2 mean in match play

In golf match play, “3&2” means the match is over because one player (or team) is 3 holes up with only 2 holes left to play.

Once a player is more holes ahead than there are holes remaining, their opponent can’t possibly catch up, so the match ends early. In a typical 18‑hole match, a 3&2 result usually means the leader went 3 up after the 16th hole, making it mathematically impossible for the other player to tie or win over the final two holes.
