what does a triple beam balance measure

A triple beam balance measures mass very precisely, usually in grams.

How it works

You place the object on the pan, then slide the three riders until the pointer lines up with zero. The total from the three beams gives the object’s mass.

Common use

It’s used in labs and classrooms for small objects and substances. Many models measure up to about 600 to 610 grams.

Simple example

If the beams read 300 g, 20 g, and 7 g, the object’s mass is 327 g.
