What does ik ben een ventilator mean?
“Ik ben een ventilator ” literally means “I am a fan” or “I am a ventilator,” but in Dutch that sounds strange and is usually not a natural way to say it.
Most likely meaning
If someone says it jokingly, they probably mean one of these:
- “I’m a fan” in the sense of supporting something, but that would normally be ik ben fan van ....
- They may be making a silly literal translation for humor, because ventilator usually means a machine that blows air.
Better Dutch
To say “I’m a fan of X,” Dutch usually uses:
- Ik ben fan van X.
- Ik vind X leuk.
- Ik hou van X.
The word ventilator normally refers to a fan/blower device, not a person who likes something.
Tiny example
- Ik ben fan van Ajax. = I’m a fan of Ajax.
- Ik ben een ventilator = literally “I am a fan machine,” which is odd and mostly funny.
Note
If you meant a different Dutch phrase, I can translate that too.
