For Australian referendums, you vote in your federal division (electorate) – the same one you use in a federal election.

1. Use the official “Find my electorate” tool

  1. Go to the Australian Electoral Commission’s “Find my electorate” page (search: “AEC find my electorate”).
  1. Enter either:
    • Your suburb/locality or postcode, or
    • Your full address if prompted.
  2. Choose from the dropdown (locality / postcode / name) and click Search.
  1. The site will show:
    • Your federal electorate name
    • A map of the boundaries
    • Your current House of Representatives member.

If your suburb or postcode is split across more than one electorate, the site will tell you and may ask for a more precise address, or direct you to contact the AEC to confirm.

2. Alternative: State service pages

Some state portals link you to the same information:

  • In NSW, Service NSW has a “Find your electorate” page that sends you to the AEC for your federal division; you enter your suburb/locality and hit Find.
  • Other states have similar “find my electorate” map tools that can also show federal divisions.

3. Once you’ve found it

  • That federal electorate is the one you’re enrolled in for any national referendum.
  • When you check your enrolment details with the AEC, your division is listed there as well.
