what makes a villager a leatherworker

A villager becomes a leatherworker when it claims a cauldron as its job site block; an unemployed or jobless villager that links to an available cauldron will automatically take the leatherworker profession and change its outfit accordingly.

Core mechanic

  • Villager professions are determined by their job site block, and for leatherworkers that block is the cauldron.
  • When an unemployed villager (or a villager whose old job block was broken) finds an unclaimed cauldron within range, it will path to it and switch to the leatherworker profession.

Requirements to become a leatherworker

  • The villager must be either completely unemployed or have its previous workstation destroyed so it can reconsider professions.
  • There must be a free bed and an unclaimed cauldron; if another villager already links to that cauldron, no new leatherworker will be created.

What leatherworkers do

  • Once converted, the leatherworker trades leather gear and related items, such as dyed leather armor, leather horse armor, and saddles, with trade tiers improving as its level increases.
  • The cauldron is used in-game as their workstation, and they can be seen interacting with it to dye leather items they offer.
