whats a billiken and where are they from

A Billiken is a small, pointy-headed mythical good-luck figure often called the “God of things as they ought to be,” usually shown as a chubby, elfin doll with a big grin and pointed ears. It was created in 1908 by American art teacher Florence Pretz of Kansas City, Missouri, and later became famous as the mascot of Saint Louis University in St. Louis and as a popular good-luck statue in places like Osaka, Japan, and souvenir shops in Alaska.
