Tara Lipinski effectively retired from competitive figure skating in 1998, the same year she won Olympic gold, when she chose to turn professional instead of continuing as an eligible amateur competitor. She then continued performing in shows and tours as a professional skater until she fully retired from performing on the ice in 2002.
