when was deodorant invented

Deodorant, in the modern commercial sense, was first introduced in 1888 with a product called Mum , a waxy cream designed to kill odor-causing bacteria under the arms. Earlier cultures, like ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, and Rome, used scented oils, resins, and perfumes to mask body odor thousands of years before that, but these were not true deodorants as we define them today.
