Ian Huntley was arrested on 17 August 2002 on suspicion of the murders of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman.

He and his girlfriend, Maxine Carr, were detained after police discovered charred pieces of the girls’ clothing, which turned the inquiry from a missing persons case into a murder investigation. Later that same day, the girls’ bodies were found near RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk.
