when was the g20 summit established

The G20 summit was established in 1999, following a decision by G7 finance ministers to create a broader “Group of 20” in response to the financial crises of the late 1990s.

More precisely, the G20 was formally created at a G7 finance ministers’ meeting on 26 September 1999, with its first official meeting held in Berlin in December 1999.
