where are the dales in england
The Dales in England are mainly in the Yorkshire Dales , a large upland area of valleys and hills in the Pennines in the north of England. They lie mostly in North Yorkshire, but the area extends into parts of Cumbria and Lancashire as well.
More specifically, when people say “the Dales” they usually mean the countryside north of towns like Settle, Skipton, Ilkley and Otley, stretching up through valleys such as Wensleydale, Swaledale and Wharfedale, and forming much of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The closest larger cities are Leeds, Bradford, Harrogate and York to the south and southeast, and Lancaster and Carlisle further to the west and northwest.
