where are tonsils located

Tonsils are located at the back of your throat on both sides, in the area doctors call the oropharynx, just behind the tongue and near the little hanging uvula.

They are small masses of lymphoid (immune) tissue that sit in shallow pockets in the side walls of the throat, where the mouth opens into the throat, so they can monitor germs entering through your mouth and nose.
