Elly De La Cruz is from Sabana Grande de Boyá, a town in the Dominican Republic.

He grew up in Sabana Grande de Boyá in a large, close-knit family before leaving home young to pursue baseball, eventually training at the Niche Baseball Academy in Santo Domingo, also in the Dominican Republic.
