where is gta 5 save file located

The GTA 5 save file is usually in:

  • C:\Users\<your username>\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA V\Profiles\
  • Your actual save files are typically inside a folder with a random-looking name there.

If you do not see it

  • Turn on hidden items in File Explorer, since some related folders can be hidden.
  • On some setups, the save can also be under C:\ProgramData\Socialclub\... instead of Documents.

What to look for

  • Save files are often named something like SGTA50000 with a matching .bak file.
  • If you are backing up progress, copy the whole profile folder, not just one file.

Fast path

  1. Open File Explorer.
  2. Go to Documents.
  3. Open Rockstar Games → GTA V → Profiles.
  4. Open the folder with the random profile name.
