Java is a large island in Indonesia , located in Southeast Asia between Sumatra to the west and Bali to the east. It lies in the Java Sea–Indian Ocean region and is one of the country’s main political and economic centers, home to the capital city Jakarta.

Java the programming language

The Java programming language was developed at Sun Microsystems by James Gosling and his team and first released in 1995. Its name “Java” comes from Java coffee, which in turn is named after the Indonesian island, so the language’s name is indirectly tied to that same place.
