where is routing number on check

The routing number is on the bottom-left of a standard check. It’s the first group of 9 digits printed along the bottom edge, before your account number and the check number.

Here’s how to spot it quickly:

  1. Look at the very bottom of the check; you’ll see three sets of numbers printed in special “computer-readable” font.
  1. The left‑most set of numbers (usually 9 digits) is your routing number.
  1. The middle set is your account number, and the right‑most set is the individual check number.

If your check looks different (business checks, foreign checks, or very stylized designs), the order can sometimes be laid out visually on the back or in tiny labels, but on standard U.S. checks the routing number is always the first 9 digits at the bottom left.
