where is the dislike button on youtube

The dislike button on YouTube is usually under the video player as a thumbs-down icon for long-form videos, or inside the three-dot menu on some Shorts or test layouts. YouTube also says the dislike count is private, but the button itself remains available for viewers on standard videos.

Where to look

  • On a normal YouTube video, look right below the player, near the like button.
  • On some Shorts, the button may be hidden from the main row and moved into the three-dot menu.
  • If you’re signed in and the UI looks different, YouTube may be running an experiment on your account.

What changed

YouTube removed public dislike counts, but not the ability to dislike videos. Viewers can still use the button, while creators can see exact dislike counts in YouTube Studio.

Simple fix

  1. Open the video.
  2. Check below the player for the thumbs-down icon.
  1. If it’s a Short and you don’t see it, tap the three-dot menu.

For most people, it’s not gone — it’s just been moved or hidden by the current interface test.
