where is the setting to allow friends to see what game you're playing steam

In Steam, the setting is in Profile > Edit Profile > Privacy Settings. To let friends see what game you’re playing, set Game details to Friends Only or Public ; if it’s Private , friends won’t see your in-game status or game title.

Fast path

  1. Open Steam.
  2. Go to your Profile.
  3. Click Edit Profile.
  4. Open Privacy Settings.
  5. Change Game details to Friends Only or Public.

If you still want to appear online

  • Keep Game details visible, but make sure you are not set to Invisible or Offline , since those statuses hide your playing activity from friends.
  • If you want friends to watch you play, there’s also a separate Broadcasting setting under Steam’s settings that controls whether friends can view your gameplay stream.

What the setting controls

Steam’s Game details privacy setting affects the list of games on your account, playtime, and whether friends can see you as in-game. If it’s set to Private , that visibility is blocked even for friends.

TL;DR: turn Game details to Friends Only if you want friends to see your game activity, and avoid Invisible/Offline if you want the status to show.
