US Trends

Where is there more non accepting of LGBT people in our country?

In the U.S., the least accepting areas tend to be in the South , especially the East South Central states: Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Tennessee, which a national survey found had the highest share of adults saying homosexual relations are “always wrong.”

Regional pattern

The same survey showed a clear gradient: New England was the most accepting region, while the South ranked least accepting overall. The South Atlantic and West South Central regions also showed higher levels of negative attitudes than the Northeast and Pacific.

Important note

This is about regional averages , not every person in those states. Acceptance also changes a lot by city, age, education, and generation, so large metro areas are often more accepting than rural areas within the same state.

Recent global context

More recent global polling also found that perceptions of LGBTQ acceptance remain lowest in parts of Africa and the Middle East , with several countries where same-sex acts are illegal ranking among the least accepting.

If you mean a specific country other than the U.S., tell me which one and I’ll narrow it down.
