where is your thyroid
Your thyroid gland is in the front of your neck , just below your Adam’s apple (voice box), wrapped around the upper part of your windpipe (trachea).
Quick Scoop: Where It Sits
- It’s butterfly-shaped , with a lobe on the right and left side of the windpipe.
- The two sides are connected in the middle by a thin bridge of tissue called the isthmus.
- If you gently place your fingers on the lower front of your neck and swallow, the thyroid area is where you may feel tissue move up and down over your windpipe.
A Tiny Example
Think of a small butterfly resting on the front of your throat:
- The body of the butterfly = isthmus across the front of the windpipe.
- The wings = right and left lobes wrapping partly around the sides of the windpipe.
If you’re worried about a lump, swelling, or pain in this area, it’s important to see a doctor or endocrinologist for a proper check.
