which targets rogues cant sap in wow tbc

In WoW TBC, rogues can’t Sap beasts , and Sap also only works on a valid enemy target that is in range, out of combat, and visible. In practice, that means druids in animal form, many quest mobs that are beasts, and any target already in combat or otherwise invalid can’t be sapped.

What can’t be sapped

  • Beasts. This is the big TBC-specific one; rogues can’t Sap beast targets.
  • Targets in combat. Sap breaks if the target is already fighting or gets pulled into combat.
  • Targets outside Sap range or not visible. Sap is melee-range-ish and requires line of sight and stealth positioning.
  • Targets that are not valid enemy units. Friendly units, dead units, or invalid targets won’t work with Sap.

Common TBC example

A druid in bear/cat form can’t be sapped because that form counts as a beast target; rogues usually need to catch the druid in humanoid form first. That’s why rogue-vs-druid openings often revolve around forcing a shapeshift or waiting for the right form.

Practical rule

If you want the simple rule: Sap humanoids, not beasts; and only when they’re out of combat, in range, and visible.
