who made up the triple entente
The Triple Entente was made up of three major European powers :
- France (officially the French Third Republic)
- Russia (the Russian Empire)
- Britain (the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland)
These three countries did not form a single tight defensive pact like the earlier Triple Alliance; instead, they gradually drew together through a chain of agreements:
- Franco‑Russian Alliance (1894): France and Russia agreed to support each other if attacked by Germany or Austria‑Hungary.
- Entente Cordiale (1904): Britain and France settled colonial disputes and pledged friendlier cooperation.
- Anglo‑Russian Entente (1907): Britain and Russia resolved conflicts over Persia, Afghanistan, and Tibet, effectively closing the circle.
Once these three “ententes” were in place, historians started calling the loose grouping of France–Russia–Britain the Triple Entente , which became the core of the Allied Powers in World War I.
