who was president during ww?2
The United States had two presidents during World War II:
- Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) – President for most of World War II, from 1933 until his death in April 1945. He led the U.S. through the Great Depression and almost the entire war, including Pearl Harbor and the major Allied campaigns in Europe and the Pacific.
- Harry S. Truman – Became president in April 1945 after Roosevelt died and led the country through the final months of the war, including the decision to use atomic bombs on Japan and the formal end of WWII later in 1945.
So, when people ask “who was president during WW2,” they usually mean Franklin D. Roosevelt , since he served for the majority of the war, but Harry S. Truman was also president at the very end.
