who won the battle of galveston
The Battle of Galveston (fought on January 1, 1863, during the American Civil War) was won by the Confederates.
Confederate forces under Maj. Gen. John Bankhead Magruder launched a coordinated land-and-sea attack that drove Union forces out of Galveston and recaptured the city. After this victory, Galveston remained in Confederate hands for the rest of the war, and the battle is remembered as a notable Confederate success on the Texas coast.
