who wrote twinkle twinkle little star

The words to “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” were written by the English poet Jane Taylor in the early 1800s. The poem was originally titled “The Star” and was published in 1806 in the collection Rhymes for the Nursery , written by Jane Taylor and her sister Ann Taylor.

The familiar tune is older and comes from the French melody “Ah! vous dirai- je, Maman,” whose exact composer is unknown, and which Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart later used as the basis for a set of piano variations in the 1780s.
