why is it called tropic of cancer

The Tropic of Cancer is called that because, over 2,000 years ago, the Sun appeared in the Cancer constellation (the zodiac sign “Cancer”) at the June solstice, when it stood directly overhead at that latitude. Even though Earth’s axis has slowly shifted and the Sun is now in a different constellation at that time, the historical name “Tropic of Cancer” stayed in use.
