Monsoon is a seasonal wind system that reverses direction between summer and winter, causing a marked change in rainfall over a region (for example, the Indian monsoon winds bring heavy rain in summer and retreat in winter). A “break in monsoon” means a temporary pause or weakening of monsoon rains in the middle of the rainy season, when rainfall over large areas decreases sharply or stops for several days to even a couple of weeks.
