Glen Hobbie was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals on June 2, 1964, when the Cubs sent him to St. Louis in exchange for veteran pitcher Lew Burdette.

What happened

Chicago was trying to find a more reliable fourth starter, and Hobbie was dealt after a rough start to the season; the SABR biography says he had an 0-3 record and a 7.90 ERA at the end of May before the trade.

The trade

  • Cubs received: Lew Burdette.
  • Cardinals received: Glen Hobbie.

Aftermath

Hobbie’s stint with the Cardinals was brief: his last MLB appearance came about seven weeks later, and he finished the year in the minors.
