To add an Amazon gift card to your account, log in and go to Account & Lists on the website, then open Gift Cards and choose Redeem a Gift Card. Enter the claim code and click Apply to your balance ; on the app, go to Account → Gift Card Balance → Redeem Gift Card and enter or scan the code.

If you mean a prepaid Visa or Mastercard gift card, that is different from an Amazon gift card. Those are usually added as a payment method at checkout, not redeemed into your Amazon balance.
