OpenAI says you can start with either standard ChatGPT seats or Codex seats, and for standard ChatGPT seats you need at least 2 seats to complete the first purchase.

Steps

  1. Choose the option to create a new Business workspace or upgrade an existing workspace.
  1. Select your billing plan, either monthly or annual.
  1. Pick your initial number of seats; standard ChatGPT seats require a minimum of 2.
  1. Complete checkout, then invite your teammates to the workspace.

What you get

ChatGPT Business is a self-serve plan for organizations and teams, and the person who signs up gets the owner role. OpenAI also says Business plans are designed for shared team use and offer centralized workspace management.

Important note

There is also a separate early-access “ChatGPT Business Free” option, but it is only available in Australia and Japan and requires a work email address. That is different from the paid Business plan most people mean when they ask about a business account.
