To change your Twitter/X @ handle , open Settings and privacy , go to Account , then tap Username and enter a new one. If the handle is taken, X will ask you to choose another; when it’s available, tap Done to save it.

On mobile

  1. Open the X app.
  2. Tap your profile icon or menu.
  3. Go to Settings and privacy.
  4. Tap Account.
  5. Tap Username.
  6. Type your new @ handle.
  7. Tap Done.

On desktop

  1. Open X in your browser.
  2. Click More.
  3. Click Settings and privacy.
  4. Open Your account or Account information.
  5. Select Username.
  6. Enter the new handle and save it.

A few things to know

  • Your @ handle must be unique.
  • You can change it whenever you want.
  • Your display name is separate from your @ handle, so you can change one without changing the other.

Example: if your current handle is @oldname, you can switch it to @newname as long as no one else is using it.
