A hard reset on an iPhone usually means a forced restart, not a factory erase. For most newer iPhones, press and release Volume Up , press and release Volume Down , then press and hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears.

By model

  • iPhone 8 and later: Volume Up, Volume Down, then hold Side button until the Apple logo shows.
  • iPhone 7 / 7 Plus: Hold Volume Down and Side/Power together until the Apple logo appears.
  • iPhone 6s and earlier: Hold Home and Power together until the Apple logo appears.

If you meant erase it

If by “hard reset” you meant wiping the phone completely, go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Erase All Content and Settings. Apple says to back up first, and you may need your Apple Account password and passcode to finish the erase.

Quick note

The forced restart does not delete your data, while the erase option does.
