A standard full-size piano has 88 keys.

Quick Scoop

Most modern acoustic pianos and full-size digital pianos use this 88-key layout, with 52 white keys and 36 black keys. This range gives just over seven octaves plus a few extra notes at the bottom, which is enough for almost all classical and contemporary repertoire.

Smaller keyboards often have fewer keys, such as 61 or 76, but these are not considered standard pianos in the traditional sense. A few specialized concert instruments even go beyond 88 keys (up to 97 or 108), yet these remain rare and are more of an exception than the norm.
